Paihia is a vibrant village with a relaxed atmosphere. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops to explore, all within walking distance.
The Bay of Islands is a stunning area with countless opportunities for adventure. You can go kayaking, swimming, sailing, hiking, or simply relax on the beach.
We've put together a guidebook with recommendations for our favorite things to do in Paihia and the Bay of Islands.
These are some of our favorite places to eat:
Third Wheel Coffee Co. - Best savory muffins in New Zealand - 86/94 Marsden Road, Paihia 0200
Plough & Feather - Lovely setting by the historic stone store. They have a casual menu for lunch during the weekend and a more formal menu in the evening. - 215 Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri 0230
Duke of Marlborough - We enjoy taking the passenger ferry across to Russell from the Paihia wharf. It is a 2 minute walk to the Duke and lovely spot to relax for lunch or dinner. Their Maori bread is some of the best we have ever had. - 35 The Strand, Russell 0202
Omata Estate Vineyard & Kitchen - Best to drive over using the Russell car ferry from Opua and then a 5 minute drive to the vineyard. Their pizzas are outstanding. Fabulous bay views. 212 Aucks Road, Russell 0272
Marsden Estate Winery & Restaurant - Lovely garden setting and you can explore KeriKeri afterwards - 56 Wiroa Road, Kerikeri 0293
Bay of Islands visitor information center - The Wharf, 69 Marsden Road, Paihia 0200
The lovely folks here will help you to book tours and provide local and regional information.
Countdown Waitangi - 9 Puketona Road, Paihia 0204
A small but comprehensive local supermarket.
